Devotionalby David George Wife: How come you never tell me anymore that you love me? Husband: I told you that on our wedding day -- if I ever change my mind, I’ll let you know. Do you know guys like that? Lots of things are universal, that is, they are set as the standard and have wide usage. Examples would be chocolate, a piano, a smile, music, etc. Chocolate seems to be the accepted standard for candy -- most candy is covered with it. The piano is the accepted standard as THE accompan- imental instrument. A smile is the same in any language -- same goes for music. Some things just have universal applications. The most universal thing of all is the love of God. Whether you are Chinese, African or English, Gods love is there to surround you -- you can depend on it. Anywhere in the universe, God’s love is universally available. We are the receptors, but we should also be the transmitters of His love to others. In John 15:12 (nlt) we read, “I command you to love each other in the same way that I love you.” That’s another one of those unattainable but worthy goals. Even though we can never love others with the same intensity that God loves us, we still are commanded to strive toward that goal. Wouldn’t all of our churches be a lot better if we could learn to do that?
PARTNER PROFILE In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
