Devotionalby David George Do you know the song, “In the Heart of the Cabbage” by Cole Slaw? Do you ever have a song rattle through your head, and you can't get rid of it? All day I've had this song dominating my mind: "Where could I go but to the Lord?" That is such a good song for so many situations. When we get desperate, where else can we really go? Our problem is that we shouldn’t wait until we are desperate to go to Him, but we often do. When a man puts a bicycle together, the last thing we would think of doing is look at the instructions. We may get desperate and look at them when we are all done and notice that the seat and handlebars are interchanged. That parallels life. We too often wait until we have messed up some things to go to the Master Planner to bail us out. We need to consult the Chief Architect before we make our plans. After some followers had deserted Jesus, He wanted to know if the twelve would leave him, too. Peter answered for all of them in John 6:68 (nlt), “...Lord, to whom would we go? You alone have the words that give eternal life.” Yes, and also the words we need for today in this life. Trust Him!
PARTNER PROFILE In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co. |
