Worth Something

What a world! The girls are getting tattoos and the boys are getting earrings. I think I’ll get an earring for my cat. Maybe it will help his self image.

How is your self image? Are you proud and cocky, self-deprecating or balanced somewhere in between? Hopefully, you are well balanced. I feel sorry for folks who have a poor self image. It has to be painful.

The reasons could be many, including the way you were treated by your peers when you were young. Psychiatrists would have you blame it on your parents.

The true child of God should never have a poor self image. When you realize that God allowed His only Son to die for you, you have to be worth a lot to God. If you are worth a lot to Him, shouldn’t you feel that you do have some earthly worth after all? Maybe you can’t preach like Billy Graham, sing like Pavarotti or play tennis like Pete Sampras, but there is something positive that you can do for God -- you really can!

James says in 4:10 (niv), “Humble yourselves before the lord, and He will lift you up.” but don’t get so low and humble that He can’t get his loving arms under you. The nlt expresses that same verse this way: “When you bow down before the Lord and admit your dependence on Him, He will lift you up and give you honor.” Admit your problem and dependence on Him, then lift your head high knowing you’re a child of the King. Now that’s worth something.
