Title: Worth the Risk (weekend edition)
 by David George

Someone has mentioned that there are two kinds of people -- those who do the work and those who take the credit. It is recommended that you be in the first group -- there is a lot less competition.

In every group or organization, churches included, there are spectators and there are participants. The participants are the ones who really benefit, but they also are the ones who run the risk of being hurt. In football, it is the participants who get hurt, not the spectators, but the participants are the ones having the fun.

In church, for example, if you are just a spectator, you have little risk of criticism. It’s pretty safe, but you also don’t get the blessing that awaits those who are willing to take the risk of being a doer instead of a getter.

I Cor. 6:19 (niv) offers these words: “Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore honor God with your body.” That doesn’t just mean eat right and don’t smoke. That means get out there and be a participant and honor God with your body by doing. It’s worth the risk. Go for it -- today! Have a good one.

In 1997 I had a stroke that crippled my left side. Upon release from therapy I started a ministry of daily e-mail devotions called E-Cheer to encourage others. I am a layman, having spent my career as service manager for the Allen Organ Co.
