Title: Zip, they're gone!
 by David George

If you are superstitious, today is Friday the 13th. For the rest of us, it’s the first day of the rest of our lives.

Little Mikey came home from Sunday School all enthused and said to his mother, “I’ve decided I’m going to read the Bible all the way through from Generations to Revolutions.” Right idea -- wrong words.

In Isaiah 40:6b we read “...all men are like grass, and all their glory is like the flowers of the field.” Wow, men must have been better looking then -- like flowers? I’m sure it is using the generic man meaning all mankind.

In verse 8 it continues, “The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the Word of our God stands forever.”

Yes, our stay on this earth does fade like the grass. History seems to indicate that one day you and I will fade and be gone, too. The other day I swapped e-mails with my co-worker at Allen Organ, and neither of us could believe that I’ve already been retired for ten years. Where have those ten years gone? Zip-- they’re gone, and I can’t bring them back. I only hope I’ve made them count for God.

Generations come and go, but God’s Word stands like a granite monument to continue to tell succeeding generations the Good News of Jesus Christ until God drops the final curtain. Have you ever marvelled at the miracle of the preservation of our Bible through the centuries? It really is a miracle of God. Be grateful!
