DevotionalTitle: He Who Has Begun.... by David George He Who Has Begun....The home I spoke of last week was a "fixer upper" we purchased to repair, live in 6 months ( at the most), make big money, and get out of there as fast as we could. We didn't intend to get friendly with anyone. Just nod our head, smile, and keep busy. (Read James 4:13-17 It was written just for me.) " I'll go to this city...make money" .. OOPS !There were 14 broken windows. Some needing quick attention. As my husband Bob was repairing one in the basement over his workbench, the new neighbor boy, Richard, stuck his head in the opening and said, "Uncle Bob, my mother told me to call you that ," "What is that little book on your workbench?" Bob replied, "it's a Gideon pocket Bible." "Can I see it?" he said. Bob slipped in a little red tract that read "How To Become A Christian", stretched up and handed it to him... for keeps. From that day on as we worked, Richard and his sister Rena would bug us with questions. Then a big question came one Sunday afternoon when we were arriving home from church. "Where do you go with your Bible?" "Church" we said. "Can we go with you?" WOW ! I was sure the answer would be NO! when they asked their mother, since they are from a very different background. To our surprise she said "yes". I was sure being a single mom, she probably wanted a few hours alone.About the third Sunday out, Richard said, "Uncle Bob, I read that little red thing you put in that Bible, and I did what it said at the end." Bob wanted to make sure Richard knew what he had done, so he went over and over it with him. Richard had given his heart to the Lord ! Christmas came, and as the kids helped me make Christmas cookies Rena said, "I want to do just what Richard did with that little book" That day Rena also accepted Christ as her Savior. For the next 10 years Richard and Rena went to church with us oN Wednesday and Sunday . One year Richard even won a football for memorizing the most scripture verses. I visited them when in Michigan this summer. They are 18 & 20 years old now. They haven't been to church in the two years since we retired to Florida. My heart sank....until my sister reminded me of the verse...Phil.1:6 "Being confident of this very thing, that He who has begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ." Though the separation by miles is long now, I pray God will bring to their minds the Word that He put in their hearts. Pray John 14:26 today for those you are concerned about.
