Renee's Anxiety Haven
Title: What Are Anxiety/Panic Disorders?
by Rene'e Furrer
WHAT IS ANXIETY?
Anxiety is described best in this way: NERVES! worriesome, jittery nerves.
You are on edge much of the time. You may have butterflies in your stomach,
sweaty palms, headaches, etc.
WHAT IS A PANIC ATTACK?
A panic attack is something that happens when your Anxiety levels are too
much for you to handle. When a panic attack occurs, you feel breathless,
your chest may feel tight, your head, hands, feet, etc. tingle. You have
a feeling of being "out of control" emotionaly. You may feel like you are
either going to die, or you are going to loose your mind. Panic attacks
can be extremely frightning.
when you first start to experience Panic attacks,
you may not know exactly what is going on with your mind and body. It may
take several trips to the Dr. to finally find out what is going on and to
get the correct help or medications. I do not personally go to Therapy,
but I do take 20 miligrams of Paxil each morning. When you first begin on
medication, you may feel dragged down for up to two weeks. But after your
body gets used to the Meds. You will start to feel much better, Less fretful
and panicy.
Now, you can and will have moments of Anxiety or Panic but
they are easier to deal with when you are taking a medication to help you.
MY EXPERIENCE
I first started having Anxiety/Panic about 5 years ago. I have always been
an emotional person and I know now from looking back that I have always
had some sort of problem but it really manifested itself several years ago.
I had ben sick for almost a month and one night I just had a full blown
attack. Since then, I have been on Meds. on and off and after having really
bad Post Partum with our third child born in 1997, I went back on my Paxil.
I tried to wean off and did fairly well for about three months, then had
to go back on it again.
I used to be ashamed to talk about it because as
a Christian, I felt that others would think me weak in my faith. But now,
I am thankful that the Lord has given these Dr.'s the ability to diagnose
and help people like me who have this disorder. So, I guess you could say
that besides my Paxil, my Therapy is GOD :o) I am currently taking 20 mil.
a day of Paxil and it has helped me so very much!
I also think positive
and just focus on being an "up" type of person. Because I do not see a Therapist,I
find that positive thinking and prayer helps me to rise above my disorder.
I know that you can do that to! If you have a Therapist to help you that
is great, but if you do not, be your own Therapist and work on yourself
and find ways that you can overcome the Panic!
I hope that my info. and story help you understand about Anxiety/Panic.
It is very real. It can come out of nowhere. It just happens and we are
not weak people. The good thing is that Panic/Anxiety are very treatable
and no one should have to suffer needlesly. You CAN get in control of your
Anxiety!
