The Book Of James Part Six
This week we are continuing our study of the book of James.
The portion of James we will be looking at is James chapter 3 verses 13-18.
I pray that you are enjoying this ‘One step at a time’ walk through this
‘Jam packed’ epistle. Anyway, lets get into the word of God.
James 3 v 13-18 who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show it
by his good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom.
But if you harbor bitter envy and selfish ambition in your hearts, do not
boast about it or deny the truth. Such “wisdom” does not come down from
heaven but is earthly, and un-spiritual, of the Devil. For where you have
envy and selfish ambition, there you find disorder and every evil practice.
But the wisdom that comes from heaven is first of all pure, then peace loving,
considerate, submissive, full of mercy and good fruit, impartial and sincere.
Peacemakers who sow in peace raise a harvest of righteousness.
In these six verses of scripture there is such a lot of wisdom, in-fact
that is the main thrust of the teaching here. I believe that the following
piece of scripture will help us to grasp a biblical principle, and help
us to understand the above teaching more fully.
Proverbs 27 v 14 “If a
man loudly blesses his neighbor early in the morning, it will be taken
as a curse.”
Think about it, it’s a good thing to bless your neighbor, but not at 4.30am
in the morning. If you was to shout a blessing to your neighbor early in
the morning when it is likely he is fast asleep, I would suspect that although
it is being done on the pretence of a blessing, it is in actual fact an
attack on him. In other words, ‘check your motives.’
The James scripture
above is a brilliant guide as to weather or not a deed is coming from the
Lord. I have heard many Christians say “God has told me this” or “God has
told me that” well I can tell you this brothers and sisters, “If it doesn’t
match up-to the bible, God’s said nothing.” I have heard so called ‘prophetic
utterances’ where one brethren has approached another and said something
like “God has told me this or that is wrong with your life” when the truth
is there is ill feeling from the speaker, and it their emotions speaking
rather than the Lord. Our feelings often lie to us, and I praise God for
the written word, it is the best ‘Road map of life’ there is. If what you
are doing matches up-to the James scripture above, you won’t go far wrong,
you will be on the right track. If your actions and motives are pure, peace
loving, considerate, submissive, merciful, impartial and sincere then bless
you my brethren, your wisdom is from the Lord Himself. It is a good help
to try and remember chunks of scripture on a particular subject and for
wisdom teaching, James 3 v13-18 is a must! God Bless all of you, have a
super week, love Kev.
