Kevin Taylor's Bible Study God bless all of you. The body of Christ needs good strong, anointed leaders, Amen? I believe the Lord has been speaking to me on this subject so I would like us to take a look at leadership from a biblical point of view. This article is especially aimed at people in leadership, or anyone who believes there is a calling on their lives for this type of ministry. It is also an in-depth subject so I will only be bringing out what the Lord has laid upon my heart. I have spent some time in leadership myself and I wouldn’t be surprised if the Lord leads me in that direction again. The thing the Lord emphasized to me was the love he has for the congregation and the following scripture rarely brings this home:

Jeremiah 3 v 15 " I will give you pastors according to mine heart, which shall feed you with knowledge and understanding".

Did you see that? He said "pastors according to mine heart" and that means exactly what it says, so if a pastor is of the hard taskmaster you will obey, "if you don’t like it lump it type" then they have moved away from the Lords heart and their calling, that is if they were called to pastor in the first place with that type of attitude. Can you remember what Jesus said to Peter just before he was taken up to Heaven? Well let’s look:

John 21 v 17 " the third time he (Jesus) said to him Simon peter son of john do you love me? Peter was hurt because Jesus had asked him this three times, and peter replied Lord you know all things, you know that I love you. Jesus said FEED MY SHEEP.

Wow this verse blows me right out of the water. Think about it, all that Jesus could have said the thing that was on his mind was the well being of his flock. Peter went through a lot of difficulties but this was a type of training for what laid ahead, and it’s the same for us today. Count it all joy all you would be leaders. There is one leader (pastor) in the bible that really touches my heart because of the love he has for his flock. It’s Moses. This man interceded to God on behalf of his flock when they clearly didn’t deserve it. Lets have a look.

Exodus 32 v 9-14 I have seen these people, the Lord said to Moses, " they are a stiff-necked people. Now leave me alone so that my anger may burn against them and that I may destroy them." Then I will make you into a great nation. But Moses sought the favour of the Lord his God and said " O Lord, why should your anger burn against your people, whom you brought out of Egypt with great power and a mighty hand? Why should the Egyptians say, It was with evil intent that He brought them out to them in the mountains and to wipe them off the face of the earth? Turn from your anger; relent and do not bring disaster on your people. Remember your servants Abraham, Isaac and Israel to whom you swore by your own self: "I will make your descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and will give your descendants all this land I promised them, and it will be their inheritance for ever." Then the Lord relented and didn’t bring the disaster on his people that he said he would.

Those people clearly owe their lives to Moses. Would you intercede if you came back from a conference to find your flock had turned to gross perversities including you second in command? Pause for thought ay! Can you see Moses heart for his people and his God. Moses saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew brother so he struck the Egyptian and killed him and eventually had to flee for his own life because of it. Have you got a pastors heart? Have you got the "right stuff" as we say over here in England? Still want to be a leader? Well if you do, bless you.

1 Timothy 3 v 1; Here is a trustworthy saying; If anyone sets his heart on being a Leader he desires a noble task.

I will finish for today with two beautiful pieces of scripture. 1 Peter 5 v 1-4; To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow-elder, a witness of Christ’s sufferings and one who also will share in the glory to be revealed. Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, serving as overseers, not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not greedy for money but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you but being examples to the flock. And when the chief Shepard appears, you will receive a crown of glory that will never fade away.

Well what do you think to that then? I can’t improve on what the word of God says, and those verses say it all. The final scripture is Hebrews 13 v 7; Obey your leaders and submit to their authority. They keep watch over you as men who must give an account. Obey them so their work will be a joy, and not a burden, for that would be of no advantage to you. It’s a sobering thought to think that leaders will have to give an account to God himself of the way they have tended the flock. If you are a leader or will be I pray for you right now in the name of Jesus that you be an outstanding leader, teaching, rebuking, building up and every other good work pertaining to a pastors call.

Love in Jesus name, kev
