God bless all of you. In the book of Numbers Chapter six we are introduced
to the Nazarite
vow, and what I would like us to do today is examine this
amazing Old Testament teaching and see how it applies to us today. Before
we start may I encourage you to read all of this chapter, so you get an
over view of what we are looking at. I believe that in a Christians walk
there will be times when God will tell them to spend time fasting, seeking
and praying, something similar to the old testament Nazarite vow. The Nazarite
chapter is an excellent foundation for anyone seeking the Lord, In fact,
when the Holy Spirit is leading you will always find biblical bases
for it somewhere in the Bible.
Numbers 6 v 1-3 The Lord said to Moses,
"speak to the Israelites and say to them: If a man or woman wants to make
a special vow, a vow of separation to the Lord as a Nazarite, he must abstain
from wine or other fermented drink. He must not drink grape juice or eat
grapes or raisins.
The word Nazarite roots back to a word meaning separation.
First things first, note that this teaching refers to the voluntary vow
( Samson and John the Baptist were Nazarite's from birth but we’re not looking
at that today) If you intend spending time praying and fasting, then do
it because you believe its right and not because someone else is pressurizing
you. I am into encouragement but not into manipulation. The Nazarite would
still eat and drink, but not what he normally would and the Lord set the
stakes not the Nazarite. There are many types of fasting, so not all fasts
are the "stop everything type".
Second the Lord will require commitment
from you. Lets move on. Numbers 6 v 5 "During the entire period of his vow
no razor may be used on his head. He must be holy until the period of his
separation to the Lord is over; he must let the hair of his head grow long".
I believe that this hair represents spiritual growth that will occur as
a result of spending time with the Lord, I see in the bible that strength
and growth go hand in hand, Also note Samson’s strength was in his hair.
You know Samson don’t you, the Nazarite with an attitude. Can I encourage
you to read up on him in Judges chapters 13- 16. The consequences of loosing
his hair was absolutely tragic. Read three of the saddest verses in the
bible, Judges c16 v 19-21 and you will see what I mean.
When you spend
time in God’s presences you will be changed, and you will grow in maturity
but look what God wants you to do with that growth.
Numbers 6 v 18: "Then
at the entrance to the tent of meeting, the Nazarite must shave off the
hair that he dedicated. He is to take the hair and put it in the fire that
is under the sacrifice of the fellowship offering".
As we grow in the Lord
we must sacrifice it back to the Lord because all the glory must go to Him.
All the growth during the Nazarite vow went back to the Lord. God does not
want us to grow in him just so we can show off spiritual gifts, the growth
is not for us, it’s for Him and His glory. However, what greater reward
can someone receive for there efforts than to draw closer to the Lord Jesus
Christ.
God bless, bye for now. Kev

you and return it via the email. God bless you.
