Is Marriage Obsolete? (By Don Argent)

God bless all of you.

This week we have another teaching from my trusted friend and church elder, Mr Don Argent. From time to time God brings people into our lives that shape and guide us on life’s path and in my life; Don and his wife Mary are two such people. Later on in the year Don and myself plus our wife’s are going on holiday to ‘The Isle Of White’ down on the south coast of England, and I must say, I’m looking forward to it, we all need a break. I pray you are blessed, built up and are able to glean something from this teaching from Don. God bless you.

Is Marriage Obsolete? By Don Argent.

In an age when sexual relationships outside of marriage are accepted by the society in which we live as normal, in an age when the word ‘Partners’ replaces the terms ‘Husband and Wife’. In an age where school children are encouraged rather than discouraged to indulge in sex. In an age when the murder of unborn baby’s is the easy way out of the consequences of this sexual freedom. Do we really need marriage? Is marriage necessary? Surely marriage must be obsolete!

THE ANSWER MUST BE, MARRIAGE CAN NEVER BE OBSOLETE!

Marriage is the order of God, anything outside of this divine order is sin, and spiritual death is the consequence. Romans 6:23 “the wages of sin is death.” Obedience to God’s command, will and order always produces that which is blessed and that which is beautiful. Genesis 2:18, 21-24 “And God said it is not good that man should be alone. I will make him a help meet (fit) for him. And the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall on Adam and he slept. And God made (or fashioned) a woman from the rib he had taken from Adam. For this reason a man shall become united to his wife and they shall become one flesh. (Note the operative words in v24 are, ‘One flesh and united; In verse 18, God states ‘That a man needs a companion and fellowship.’ When God declares, “I will make help fit for him,” he means a help suitable to man intellectually, morally and physically- as his counterpart. Verse 22 says God made a woman (Not another man). The word made is the Hebrew ‘Panah’ built or skilfully formed. To paraphrase a poem written by Charles Wesley; Woman was not taken out of man’s head to be lorded over by him, nor from his feet to be trampled on by him, but from his side to be equal with him, from under his arm to be protected by him. The key answer to the questions, ‘Is Marriage Necessary’? Is Marriage needed? Is found in verse 24, for this reason (The reason in verse 18) a man shall become united to his wife and they shall become one flesh.

I am reminded at this point, that there is a significant verse in Geneses chapter one, it is verse 27. “So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created him. Male and female created he them.” Two important points emerge. God = Elohim, plurality in unity, the equation being, 1x1x1=1 and not 1+1+1=3 as the Jehovah’s Witness claim. Thus, man made in God’s image, man united to his wife becoming one flesh. In the context of this verse, a male and female man, is a unity after the image of God. Adam became united, one flesh with Eve (Chapter 2 verse 24) they were two plural in unity.

The point that I am making is this; marriage is of inestimable significance and value in God’s eyes, for this reason. In the beginning this unity of the male and female man was to have been a unity of the natural paralleling the spiritual purity in unity of God. Unfortunately man in one act of disobedience not only broke the perfect unity shared between male and female, he also in one fell-swoop brought down a barrier called sin, which was to exclude fellowship between God and man. A barrier which was to take four thousand years to break, a span of time brief to God, but great to man. Since man invited sin into his life, satan has constantly sought to stop the restoration of fellowship between man and his creator, even though God in his tender mercy and loving kindness has provided a way back into fellowship in the most Holy place. This way back, the only way back is through God the Son Jesus the Anointed one. Satan to this day seeks to destroy forever that unity in marriage that is of paramount importance to God therefore to man. The opening paragraph of this word, briefly shows haw satan uses one area of male/female oneness as a powerful weapon against family life. Satan perverts the sexual and dare I say it? Yes a righteous relationship when shared according to God’s order. God has stated clearly in his word, these things are an abomination to him, totally unacceptable in his order. Sexual relations outside of marriage, adultery, sexual relationship between man and man, or woman and woman. The last two obviously challenge God’s created order, ‘Male and female He created them,’ satan has always attacked God’s order by seeking to cast doubt on God’s word which expresses His order, “Has God really said you cannot eat of every tree”? satan used this same strategy against Jesus in the wilderness temptation. (Luke 4: 1-3)

Has God really said that man with man is unnatural? And so it goes on. My dear friends, always but always, open your bible and check out what God did say about every matter that effects your eternal destiny, yes check out this teaching that I present to you now.

With much love,

Don Argent.

We will be looking at part two of Don’s teaching next week so until then, may the Lord himself keep you safe. Love, Kev.
