This site and the privilege of sharing the word on the net is a major blessing to me especially when you consider that only a year ago I had never used a pc. But I have been obedient to the Lord, and been taught, and now have this blessing bestowed upon me . Thank you Lord.

Kevin Taylor's Bible Study God bless all of you. Today I feel we should take a look at a subject that involves all of us, and that is temptation.

1 Corinthians 10 v 13 " There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that you may be able to bear it."

James 1 v 13-14 "Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed."

Right then brothers and sisters, there are three things that spring out of these two pieces of scripture. The first is the temptation both you and I are faced with is the same as every one else. When you become a Christian you have to walk the same path as those before you and after you, we all have similar hurdles to overcome, it takes some longer than others but we are all different. At the time when you are going through difficulties "TEMPTATIONS" it seems to you that you’re the only one in the whole world that has been faced with this difficulty, but it’s the same for all of us and we will continue to be tempted until the day we die. It is not a sin to be tempted; it is a sin to give in to temptation. Jesus was tempted by the Devil in the wilderness (Matthew 4 v 1-11) but he refused to yield. The second thing is a great comfort to know and that is that God will not allow to be tempted beyond your ability to resist, and will make an escape rout, should you choose to take it. I say, "should you chose to take it" because we do have a free will to choose to do right or wrong. The third thing is vital to our theology and that is that "God does not tempt you." The devil will tempt you and then try to kid you into believing that it is God doing the tempting to try and trip you up or something. Please note, God is on your side.

Psalm 118 v 6 The Lord is on my side, I will not fear; what can man do unto me?

Some times temptations come our way and they are so subtle they can appear to be from the Lord, let me give you two examples from my own life. Many years ago I was working in a coal mine. I had just become a Christian but at that time I still used to smoke and chew tobacco, which I now believe to be a sin. The Bible says that "our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit" so we should not abuse it in this way. I am sure the Lord has put tobacco plants on earth for a good use, but smoking is not what he intended. This particular day I had ran out of chewing tobacco, and as I was walking under ground I came across a packet of tobacco that had obviously fallen out of someone’s pocket. I picked it up and rejoiced believing the Lord had granted the desires of my heart and started to consume the tobacco, although it didn’t feel right I still did it. Was this from the Lord? Defiantly not, the above scripture is quite clear, God cannot be tempted neither does he tempt anyone. The tobacco wasn’t a gift from the Lord if anything it was a trap from the enemy who would loved to have seen me still hooked on tobacco. Nice try devil but I am now free from tobacco and have been for ten years. Thank you Lord. See how subtle it was? I was "drawn away of my own lust and enticed." The second example happened when I was going through a period of financial blessing from the lord. It seemed that what ever I did or where ever I went I had a tremendous favor from above poured upon me. I had just had my hair cut at the barbers in Coalville the town near to where I live and when I paid the bill the barber gave me an extra £10. In my change. As I left the shop the Lord started to speak to me and show me that this was not a gift or blessing from him, but it was in fact the barber making a mistake with my change, and as the law in this country states "All moneys paid in error are recoverable" I should return it. So the next week I went down town to the barbers, explained what had happened and returned the cash. It felt great to be honest. Think about it, if I had kept that money it would have been tantamount to theft, which is not honoring to God. It was as if the devil was trying to duplicate what the Lord was doing in my life to try and trip me up. The Lord doesn’t need us to rob people in order for him to bless us; he’s rich enough as it is. See psalm 24 v 1.

Right, what is the answer to temptation? Lets see what the Bible says.

James 4 vs. 7 "submit yourselves to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you"

That is it in a nutshell. Keep your eyes on Jesus and don’t give in. If you have blown it, don’t give up. And rejoice.

James 1 v 2-3 "My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into divers temptations; knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience."

I cannot improve on what the Bible says, so I leave you with the following scripture again out of the book of James.

James 1 v 12 " Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord has promised to them that love him." That’s all for now, have a great week and God bless you.
