A Relationship With The Triune God (By Don Argent)
God bless all of you. This week my trusted friend and church elder Don Argent
has given us a teaching which the Lord has laid on his heart. I pray you
are blessed and inspired as you read the following article.
Let us look at the gospel of John. In chapters 14-16, Jesus speaks much
of mans relationship with God the father, God the son and God the Holy Ghost.
Three persons, yet one God. The Lord our God is one Lord (Mark 12 v 29.)
verse 30 says, “Thou shall love this one Lord God with all our heart, soul,
mind and strength, the first commandment. Jesus also said God is a spirit
and seeks true worshipers, who will worship him in spirit and in truth.
From this we see that we love God the father, son and spirit. We worship
God the father, son and spirit, for they are one God. They are a unity inseparable.
In John chapter 14-16 Jesus shows the order of mans relationship with the
Godhead. Lets take it from the top. How do we have an intimate relationship
with God the father?
John 14:6 Jesus saith unto him (Thomas) I am the way,
the truth and the life; no man cometh unto the father, but by me. In the
Old Testament almighty God, made his dwelling place in the Holy of Holies
in the tabernacle of Moses, the only way into God’s presence was through
the gate into the outer court known as ‘The Way,’ through the gate into
the Holy place known as ‘The Truth’ and finally through the gate known as
‘The Life’ and only the high priest could enter once a year.
Today everyone
who names Jesus Christ Lord of their lives has this privilege and greater,
for we can enter at any time not just once a year. We read in the book of
Hebrews 10 v 19-23 having therefore brethren, boldness to enter in to Holiest
by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way, which he has consecrated
for us, through the veil, that is to say his flesh. And having a high priest
over the house of God. Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance
of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies
washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the profession of our faith without
wavering, (for he is faithful that promised)
Jesus said “Believe me I am in the father, and the father is in me. He that
hath seen me hath seen the father.” There is no way that we can have a relationship
with God the father, except through knowing and having a close relationship
with the Son, Jesus the anointed one. The way into this relationship with
God the Son can only be through the Holy Spirit. Jesus said in John 16 v
7 “I tell you the truth, it is expedient for you that I go away, for if
I go not away the comforter will not come unto you, but if I depart, I will
send Him unto you. In John 13 v 20 Jesus said, “Truly truly, I say unto
you, he that receiveth whomsoever I send receiveth me. And he that receiveth
me receiveth him that sent me. John 16 v 13-15, ‘when he, the Spirit of
truth is come He will guide you into all truth, for he shall not speak of
himself, but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak and he will show
you things to come. He shall glorify me for he shall receive of mine, and
show it unto you. All things that the father hath are mine, therefore said
I that he shall take of mine and shall show it unto you. How do we come
into this relationship with the Holy Spirit? Simply by asking our father
God. Luke 11 v 13 Jesus says, “If you then being evil, know how to give
good gifts to your children, how much more shall your heavenly father give
the Holy Spirit to them that ask him. There it is; simply ask the Father.
So the way into the presence of the father is fellowship with God the Holy
Spirit, who guides us into fellowship and friendship with Jesus Christ,
God the son, who is the only way into the holy of Holies and the intimate
fellowship with God the father, thus our fellowship is with the ‘Triune
God,’ Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Amen!
Just a note of interest, John
16;13-15 refers to the Holy Spirit 8 times as ‘He,’ denoting a person and
not just an influence as taught by many religious Cults and sects.
